Object breakdown structure

Last updated: July 20, 2023
The hierarchical breakdown of an object into its components in a specific configuration, through sufficient levels to show the logical make-up of the complete object group in a specific context.
You can define various Object Breakdown Structures for the same item, depending on the intended end use of the defined breakdown, such as:
  • A breakdown for an item that shows how it will be fabricated and assembled for objection purposes (a Objection Breakdown Structure), or
  • A breakdown for the same item that shows how it will be maintained (a Maintenance Breakdown Structure).

A defined Object Breakdown Structure forms the basis for AssetWise to assemble, control, and report all associated item data and documents for a complete object, or any part of the object.

AssetWise uses the Product Breakdown Structure as a default breakdown structure. This breakdown structure represents the Product Bill of Material or parts list.

If required, you can define and apply any other breakdown structure.
